연우

동탄에서 일년 살아왔던것이 제 인생에 좋은 추억을 많이 만들게 해서 그곳을 떠나도 나 아직 그곳을 많이 좋아한다. 거기서 나란 인간에대해 많을것을 배웠고 이쁜 가게를 많이 찾았다. 동탄에 가게되서 너무 고맙게 생각한다고 한걸 하나는 모모의 다락방이란 가게를 다니게된거예요. 거기서 선생님 밑에서 인형을 만드는 방법을 배우고 제 손으로 이쁜것들을 많이 만들게 되서 너무 좋다.

동탄을 떠나 목동으로 와서 그곳을 다니기 못하게되서 너무 아깝지만, 그것도 저 독립하게 만들어서 좋아요. 그맘으로, 지난달에 야구 3주일동안 쉴때 제 능력으로 제가 혼자서 직접 만드는 인형을 만들기 시작 했고 지난주에 완성 시켰다.

시장 가서 원단을 직접 사서 만들고. 옷 위쪽을 만들게 한복집에서 페턴 부탁해 갖고 그 페턴을 바꾸고 옷을 만드는게 시간 되게 많이 걸렸다. 치마만 만드느라 시간 엄청 걸려서 완성 못 시킬 수 있다고 생각도 했지만. 역시 나 고집이 세.

인형 만드는거랑 실제로 입는 한복을 만드는것이 많이 다르다. 핀 막 찌르고 또 찌르고, 모양 바꾸고, 뭐를 직접 만드는것의 행복을 느꼈다.

머리 또한 복잡 하게 만들고 한 6시간이나 걸렸다 ㅋㅋㅋ

꽃신을 어떡해 하면 된지 모르고 대충 하다가 결국은 네일용 얇은 스티커를 쓰고 예쁘게 완성.

완성 시키자마자 떠오르는 이름이 해를 품은 달의 <연우>라서, 연우나는 이름은 치웠다. 방갑다 연우야.

NESSHOME

I started making dolls last fall. I made 11 of them. When I think about it it's completely crazy. It sums up to lots of money as well. I don't know how many clients my teacher has, but it seems to be quite a viable employment worth thinking about. While I doubt it'd work anywhere in Canada, Korea seems to be a place where a lot of people like to make things with their own hands. They like stuff made in their country and they like buying stuff from it too. Quebecers who want independence have some to learn from this aspect of Korea. They love their culture their country and they show it with their choice in investments in every aspect of their lives.

I made dolls under my teacher's watchful eyes. While I don't even want to think of going to school again, learning to make stuff with my own hands I love. That was great, and she is amazing. I would totally recommend her to anyone. Tho. Maybe it'd help to speak Korean. Just saying.

Anyways. After my 11th, I started making plans to make my own. At that time it became clear that my school would close so I wouldn't be able to learn from her much longer, so I bought basic fabric from her and bought some wool for hair, of different color, and got most of the material to paint the faces. 

Except the Pigma Sakura 005 pen, brown. 

I could just not find it ANYWHERE. I asked friends to look, I called stores and made them call their furnishers. Nothing. There was just no way I'd find it. They had black, but not brown. I wanted brown.

So I kept an unfinished doll of my best friend, that I started last winter.

And finally, this summer, a few weeks ago, I realized that I can set up my phone to buy things online with my Korean card and everything got settled. I found them. 

And ordered 10.

The store I got it from, NESSHOME, game me a piece of fabric with the delivery, a super cute picture. I am not sure of what I'll do with it, but as I know the worth of a cute piece of fabric I am pretty sure its time will come.

I still need to make a little chihuahua stuffed animal to go along with the doll because my best friend goes nowhere without it, but I am pretty happy to finally have finished the face.

Momo eui Darag Bang

I have written about Momo's sewing school before, a beautiful handcraft haven I have grown greatly attached to. Ironically, the school will be moving to another area of Dongtan in a few weeks to join the local "culture center" of Dongtan in a much bigger room that is shared among a couple of other teachers all working in specific different fields of crafting, including sewing machine work, hand sewing, knitting, chalk and styrofoam art, ribbon art and Korean calligraphy. I was really sad to leave Dongtan for I would not be able to go to the school as I liked, but the place I know, full of last fall's memories, will be no more anyways, so I feel a bit better.

If you do live near the area, however, I strongly encourage you to go to the school. It is right on the street where the McDonald is, in the same building as the Jaws Ddeokboggi, 4th floor. Opens from 10AM to 9PM closed on Sunday and Saturdays of the 2nd and 4th week of the month. I'll try to get the exact address and see if they have a website. Otherwise, if you really need to know where it is, I can explain it clearly with pictures, just ask me in the comment space...

Last week I went crazy on going to the school, because for once, I did not work in the mornings. I only worked part-time so I went to the sewing school in the morning to finish up projects I started, and start new ones, trying to make the most of my last days in Dongtan, with no friends around, so I did not feel too bad to see no one else than my teacher everyday.

My teacher took some pictures as I was doing tome felt sewing, she thought it was a nice picture opportunity. As I had no make up, I was not so sure, but the pictures turned out quite nicely so I must give in Korean eye for nice pictures once more.
